Scope and Content
The major portion of the D. H. Lawrence Collection was purchased by the University of California Library from the estate of
Frieda Lawrence Ravagli, his widow, in 1957. A few items have been added by purchase and by gift; the sources for these are
noted on the folders.
The collection includes letters written by Lawrence and a few addressed to him; MSS of his writings (novels, short stories,
poems, plays, essays, introductions to books, travel sketches, translations and book reviews); an autobiographical fragment;
clippings and reprints of articles, stories, etc. written by Lawrence; clippings of articles re Lawrence, his books, and books
about him; his address book and other miscellaneous items; transcripts of proceedings in an English court case, 1960, involving
publication of
Lady Chatterley's Lover; letters of condolence addressed to Frieda Lawrence; MS copy of E. W. Tedlock's
D. H. Lawrence Manuscripts: A Descriptive Bibliography.
