Biographical / Historical
The Committee for Fundamental Rights and Democracy was founded by Klaus (1935-2019) and Hanne Vack (1940-) in 1979. The socialist,
pacifist group was based in Sensbachtal, West Germany. In 1996, the Vacks were awarded the Fritz Bauer Prize by the Humanist
Union. Today, the group continues its civil disobedience and activism in support of peace, democracy, and human rights.

Das Komitee für Grundrechte und Demokratie wurde 1979 von Klaus Vack (1935–2019) und Hanne Vack (geb. 1940) gegründet. Die
sozialistisch-pazifistische Gruppe hatte ihren Sitz in Sensbachtal, Westdeutschland. 1996 wurden die Vacks von der Humanistischen
Union mit dem Fritz-Bauer-Preis ausgezeichnet. Heute setzt die Gruppe ihren zivilen Ungehorsam und Aktivismus zur Unterstützung
von Frieden, Demokratie, und Menschenrechten fort.

Scope and Contents
The collection consists largely of member newsletters, meeting minutes, brochures, and press releases written by the Committee
for Fundamental Rights and Democracy. Also included are year-end summaries and news clippings highlighting the Committee's
work with asylum seekers, the right to assemble, prisoner aid, and antimilitarism–among other causes. During the 1990s, much
of the material covers humanitarian efforts in Yugoslavia. Most of the essays and memos included were written by Klaus Vack,
Hanne Vack, and Andreas Buro.
Sammlungsinhalt
Die Sammlung besteht größtenteils aus Mitgliederrundbriefe, Sitzungsprotokollen, Broschüren und Pressemitteilungen des Komitee
für Grundrechte und Demokratie. Ebenfalls enthalten sind Zusammenfassungen zum Jahresende (heißt das "Jahrbuch") und Nachrichtenausschnitte,
die die Arbeit des Komitees mit Asylbewerbern, das Versammlungsrecht, Gefangenenhilfe und Antimilitarismus – neben anderen
Themen – hervorheben. In den 1990er Jahren befasst sich ein Großteil des Materials mit humanitären Bemühungen in Jugoslawien.
Die meisten der enthaltenen Aufsätze und Memos wurden von Klaus Vack, Hanne Vack und Andreas Buro verfasst.
