    Scope and Content

These materials were transferred to University Archives from the Office of the Chancellor on 19 June 1992, after publication in 1991 of the report of the Commission.
The Commission, chaired by Professor Christina Maslach, was established in 1988 with the charge to study and recommend methods for maximizing student success on the Berkeley Campus. The Commission, consisting of faculty, students and staff, attempted to address such problems as student retention, admissions, advising, housing, as well as academic and curriculum issues. These records reflect the activities of the Commission and the methods it used to gather information relevant to these concerns--interviews, open meetings, surveys, studying relevant reports, and seeking input from a wide variety of campus units and groups.
The commission issued its report in 1991: Promoting student success at Berkeley : guidelines for the future : report of the Commission on Responses to a Changing Student Body / Christina Maslach, chair.

    Scope and Content

The records consist of meeting materials, correspondence, drafts of its report, questionnaires, records of interviews, statistical materials, affirmative action reports, and reports and publications used as background materials.
