Biography

Clark and Henery Bridge and Wharf Builders and General Construction was based in Stockton, California from the 1890's through 1911. By 1911-12 they had branched into many areas of Northern California, doing road paving in Lodi, Marysville, Chico, and Oroville and many towns in Oregon. In 1914-15 they were involved in a dredger scandal in Oakland and there were other controversies over their contracts and work.

Scope and Content

The Clark & Henery Account Books (1895-1911) and Scrapbooks (1911-1916) illustrate the history of street paving in Northern California and Oregon during the years immediately preceding World War I. They record city decisions and politics regarding paving, financing of paving, types of paving, steps in the paving process, and public attitudes towards road and street paving.
