    Abstract: Jeanette MacDonald (1903-1965) was a Broadway chorus girl in 1920, and rapidly reached stardom in stage musicals and operettas. Her film debut was The Love Parade in 1929. She married actor Gene Raymond in 1937. She later retired from screen to seek a new career in concert halls and on stage. The collection consists of scrapbooks containing mounted newspaper clippings, press reviews, photographs, and programs that document MacDonald's career on stage, screen, and light opera.

    Biography

    Jeanette MacDonald was born June 18, 1903 in Philadelphia; Broadway chorus girl in 1920, rapidly reached stardom in stage musicals and operettas; film debut, The Love Parade, 1929; teamed with Maurice Chevalier at Paramount; from 1933 at MGM, she was paired with Nelson Eddy in singing partnership; married actor Gene Raymond, 1937; retired from screen to seek a new career in concert halls and on stage; died in 1965.

    Collection consists of scrapbooks containing mounted newspaper clippings, press reviews, photographs, and programs that document MacDonald's career on stage and screen, in light opera, and entertaining the troops during World War II.
