This collection has been divided into three series: Train Registers, Forms, and Miscellaneous

Historical Background

The Carson and Colorado Railway was incorporated February 27, 1892, and in July and August, 1892, it acquired: the Carson and Colorado Railroad Company, which operated 157.60 miles of main line from Mound House to Candelaria Nevada, the Carson and Colorado Railroad, Second Division, operating 33.50 miles from Filben over Mt. Montgomery Pass to the Nevada-California line, and the Carson and Colorado Railroad, Third Division, which operated 108 miles from the Nevada-California line to Keeler, California. On March 1, 1900, the Carson and Colorado Railway came under the control of the Southern Pacific Company and on May 11, 1905, it was sold to the Nevada and California Railway.

 

Series 1: TRAIN REGISTERS, 1877-1895

Physical Description: 1 box

Scope and Content Note

Train registers were created and maintained by the train dispatcher at Carson City, Nevada. One was issued each day. Train registers record all train movements over the line for the day. Information which may be recorded includes the timetable number, train number, locomotive number, surname of conductor and locomotive engineer, arrivals and departure time at major stops along the line, number of cars on train, description of load, and consignee, remarks and car reports. Organized chronologically.

Physical Description: 16 folders

Scope and Content Note

Includes forms used by Carson & Colorado Railway to record financial transactions. Form 48 provides a record of cash transactions and Form 49 records cash remittance as per recapitulation of daily statement. Organized chronologically.
 

SERIES 3: MISCELLANEOUS, 1876-1916

Physical Description: 7 folders

Scope and Content Note

Includes correspondence from the Freight Agent's Office, damage claims and an expense bill from the Freight Department, a payroll voucher and verification of employment form from the Personnel Office, a voucher from Russell Wheel & Foundry Company, and a record of equipment. Organized by department and type of document.
