Agency History

The Governor's Advisory Commission on Housing Problems was created according to Chapter 1242 of the Statutes of 1961.
The Commission was charged to make a detailed study the housing needs of the State, both in public and private areas, [and] to determine how the State can best use its powers to meet these needs... The Commission's report was to be submitted to the Governor and the Legislature at the commencement of the 1963 Regular Session. Governor Edmund G. Brown Sr. appointed eleven citizens and four legislators to the commission. The records of the Governor's Advisory Commission on Housing Problems includes documents relating to: Commission meetings; correspondence of the Chairman. and the Executive Director; the Commission's role in the Governor's Conference on California Growth; staff research papers; publicity; and the Commissions report containing research and recommendations.
