Description
d'Alté A. Welch (1907-1970) was a biologist and collector of children's books. His publications include A bibliography of American children's books printed prior to 1821 (1972) and A bibliography of American children's books printed prior to 1831 (1973?). The collection consists of research material compiled by d'Alté Welch on children's book collections, including microfilm, photographic negatives, card files, photocopies, correspondence, book dealers catalogs, offprints and selected issues from library journals and bibliographic societies, and notebooks.
Background
Welch was born on April 9, 1907 in New York City, New York; MA (1931) and Ph.D (1937), Johns Hopkins University; taught biology at John Carroll University beginning in 1942; became a collector of children's books; publications include A bibliography of American children's books printed prior to 1821 (1972) and A bibliography of American children's books printed prior to 1831 (1973?); he died on January 4, 1970.
