Table of contents What's This?
The collection consists of three County Jail Log Books, thirteen volumes of Mug Books containing approximately 7600 photographs, and a State of California Parole Violators ledger.
This collection consists of records kept by long-time San Joaquin County Sheriffs Thomas Cunningham(1871-1899) and Walter Sibley (1899-1915). Cunningham was an early advocate of many techniques of modern criminology, including fingerprinting. He kept thorough photographic records of all prisoners in his own jail and collected photographs of prisoners in other California jails as well.
