Hibi Papers 1893-1972

Physical Description: 29.5 linear ft.

Scope and Content Note

Hibi Matsusaburoo [characters] (1886-1947). Artist. A native of Shiga Prefecture. Attended Hsei University, Kyoto, 1905. Arrived in America in 1906. Attended California School of Fine Arts, San Francisco, 1919-1930. Taught art and Japanese in Hayward, California before World War II. Interned at the Topaz Relocation Camp, Utah, and served as Resident Director, Topaz Relocation Center Art School, 1942-1945. His works were mainly exhibited in San Francisco. Married, two children. Popularly known as George M. Hibi.
