Series III. contains Richards's writing oeuvre. Richards's typescripts, lectures and poems are found here. There are also manuscripts and notes for various writing projects, often several draft versions will show the development of a particular piece of her writing. Clippings of published versions of Richards's writing are filed with the corresponding typescripts. Series III also contains writing by others submitted to Richards by colleagues, friends or writers with an academic interest in Richards's work.

Scope and Content Note

Subseries III.A. comprises Richards's lifetime of writing including her doctoral dissertation; lectures; articles; typescript drafts of her books: The Crossing point ; Centering; Toward Wholeness. Often notes, typescripts and accompanying publication or clipping are included. Richards was an active contributor to Craft Horizons; Studio Potter and the Journal of Anthroposophy. She also traveled frequently and lectured nationally.

Authors include Owen Barfield, John Cage, Lou Harrison, Dick Higgins, Jackson MacLow, and Charles Olson. Cage's "Indeterminacy" stories are located in this subseries. Stories 90 to 130 are handwritten with corrections and dedicated to Richards. Occasionally these manuscripts come with letters, which are filed with the manuscripts.
