Abstract: Russell Simpson (1880-1959) acted with touring companies and appeared on Broadway before appearing in moving pictures (1907). Over his career, Simpson appeared in television films and in more than 500 motion pictures. The collection consists of 158 motion picture stills, clippings, correspondence, a bound album of photographs from the film Way down east, in which Russell Simpson appeared, and a scrapbook of newspaper clippings.

Biography

Simpson was born in 1880 near San Francisco, California; left for the Alaska goldrush at age 18; enrolled in acting school in Seattle; acted with touring companies and appeared on Broadway; entered moving pictures in 1907, arriving in Hollywood to make a film in 1917; appeared in television films, and in more than 500 motion pictures, including Grapes of wrath, Girl of the golden West, My darling Clementine, Romance of Rosy Ridge, Beautiful blonde from Bashful Bend, Saddle tramp, Seven brides for seven brothers, Last command, and Friendly persuasion; he died in 1959.

Scope and Content

Collection consists of 158 motion picture stills, clippings, and correspondence. Includes a bound album of photographs from the film Way down east, in which Russell Simpson appeared, and a scrapbook of newspaper clippings.
