    Biography

    William W. Eitel joined Heinz & Kaufman in 1929; he was manager of the tube manufacturing department for five years. He was a co-founder of Eitel-McCollough Inc. (EIMAC), now a division of Varian Associates. In 1950 Mr. Eitel was awarded the Navy Distinguished Public Service award for contributions to the electron tube art during World War II. January 1, 1953, he received the grade of Fellow in The Institute of Radio Engineers and was a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of California. Mr. Eitel was a member of the board of trustees of the Foundation for Nutrition and Stress Research; Chairman of the Board of OSCAR, Inc., a satellite company, and was the owner and operator of the Sutro Ranch and Laboratory in Dayton, Nevada.

    Scope and Content

    This collection contains the papers of William W. Eitel, co-founder of Eitel-McCollough, Inc. and a distinguished engineer. Included are papers depicting the 1970's battle between private Ham Radio operators and the Federal Government over radio wave rights, his involvement with several technical firms and Ham Radio organizations, and personal correspondence with many friends and associates. The collection mainly contains documents regarding Mr. Eitel from 1972-1978.
