Background
Horace Warren Hulbert was born May 15, 1844, in Wisconsin. He came overland to California in 1861 and learned the printing
trade in Ukiah. He edited and owned a number of northern California newspapers before he moved to Georgetown and started the
Georgetown Gazette in 1880. Although he owned and was the editor of the Gazette until 1898, H. W. Hulbert's primary concern from the late 1880s to his death in 1924 was mining.
