Abstract: This collection consists of prints, tracings, and sketches of technical equipment such as compressors, engines, and generators.

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of prints, tracings, and sketches of technical equipment such as compressors, engines, and generators. The companies represented in these materials include: Ampex Corporation, Coolerator Company, Bendix Aviation Corporation, ITT Corporation, American Motors Corporation, Dalmo-Victor Company, Studebaker Corporation, Hewlett-Packard Company, Eitel McCullough Corporation, Jack & Heintz, and Heintz & Kaufman. There are also two rolls of blueprints for a private residence and a school. Most of the materials are stamped 'The Ramohs', which was Ralph and Sophie Heintz's home and workshop in Los Gatos, California.
Note: Some of the materials are fragile and require extra care while handling.

Biographical / Historical

Ralph M. Heintz was chemical engineer and a physical chemist. He was a leading figure in early electronics and radio engineering. After serving in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in World War I, Heintz earned a chemistry degree from Stanford University. He then started the firm Heintz & Kaufman which produced transmitting and vacuum tubes for radios as well as completed radio sets primarily for airplanes and ships.
