Abstract: Michael Nava (1954- ) was the deputy city attorney for the City of Los Angeles (1981-84) before starting his own private law practice. He has also published many books. The collection consists of correspondence, manuscripts, proofs, notes, calendars, memorabilia, photographs, drawings, clippings, and printed material related to the life and literary career of Michael Nava.

Nava was born on September 16, 1954 in Stockton, California; grew up in Sacramento, California; BA, Colorado College, 1976; JD, Stanford University, 1981; moved with lover Bill Weinberger to Los Angeles, and became deputy city attorney, City of Los Angeles, 1981-84; private law practice in Los Angeles, 1984-86; research attorney with California Court of Appeal, Los Angeles, 1986-95; private law practice in San Francisco beginning in 1995; publications include The Little Death (1986), Goldenboy (1988), Finale (1989), How Town (1990), The Hidden Law (1992), Created Equal: Why Gay Rights Matter to America (1994), The Death of Friends (1996), and The Burning Plain (1997).
