Biography

The Black Caucus at the University of California San Francisco was founded in May of 1968, one month after the death of Martin Luther King, Jr. It is open to all black men and women on this campus.
During the late 1960s and 1970s the Black Caucus was instrumental in the establishment of an Affirmative Action Office, minority training programs and focused attention on the need for increased minority student enrollment at the UCSF campus.

Scope and Contents

The Black Caucus Records are comprised of donations from members of UCSF's Black Caucus, founded in 1968, after the death of Martin Luther King, Jr., and open to all Black men and women at UCSF. The materias span roughly 1968-2010 and document the early activities of the Black Caucus, as well as of other similiar groups on campus, such as the Council of Minority Organizations (COMO) and the Latin American Campus Association (LACA).
Materials include photographs, posters, fliers, and other ephemera documenting the activities of the Black Caucus, as well as audiovisual materials, a hard drive, and a digital transfer. There are also files from the Office of UCSF Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity and Diversity, which include statistics about diversity at UCSF and other UCs, as well as articles and fact sheets on workplace descrimination and retaliation. There are also materials documenting Black Caucus celebrations and anniversaries.
