Ebin Orvis Darling was born in Vermont. Coming to California in1858, he lived in Bear Valley, was head of the Bear Valley
Store, and manager of the Mariposa Land and Mining Company. He was married October 23, 1863 to Rachel Shey and fathered four
daughters. He was also a Mariposa County Supervisor for six years during 1869-1875. He retired to San Jose in1887 and died
there on September 9th, 1889.
