History
In 1967 Ed, Richard and Raymond Corum of Sacramento, CA thought it might be interesting
to see if they could find out if they were related. They decided to go through the phone
books for California, Oregon and Washington and make a list of all the Corums. Postcards
were sent to all of the Corums listed in the phone books asking if they would be
interested in getting together to meet other possible relatives. The response was so
favorable that it was decided to have a meeting in Sacramento in October, 1967. Everyone
was asked to bring any and all information they had on their branch of the family,
including memorabilia and pictures. A large amount of information was obtained and it was
decided to make charts showing the different families. Larry Anderson, a charter member,
went to Salt Lake City where he spent two weeks researching files and obtaining
information from the Mormon Genealogical Library. Charles Corum, another charter member,
undertook the formidable task of sorting out the information and making the first set of
charts in 1968. The charts consisted of eleven pages and the only charts that had
continuity were the charts of John Corum and Mary Cobb. The reason for this is that the
majority of the Corums on the West Coast are descendants of John and Mary. The charts
have been redone and updated several times. By 1970 they numbered thirty-six. In 1981 and
1982, the charts were done again by Charles and Warren Corum. At the present time there
are one hundred and nineteen pages of charts and one set of charts includes ten
generations. The Association has hired part-time genealogists at various times, but by
and large the information has come from members who have spent their own time and money
to research information that they have shared with the Association.
