Abstract: Viola Lockhart Warren (1896- ) was a lecturer on medical history in the UCLA Department of History (1953-58) and wrote about
early California for children and early California medical men. She was also the assistant editor for the
Journal of electricity (1918-20), did book reviews for
Democrat and
Chronicle in Rochester, New York (1938-43), and was a columnist on women's affairs for the
Oak Ridge journal in Tennessee (1944-46). The collection consists of Warren's correspondence, speeches, manuscripts, some photographs, and
ephemera.

Warren was born in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska, September 6, 1896; married Stafford Warren, 1920; BA, University of California,
Berkeley (1918); graduate work in English at Radcliff (1922-23); assistant editor,
Journal of electricity (1918-20); did book reviews for
Democrat and
Chronicle, Rochester, New York (1938-43); columnist on women's affairs,
Oak Ridge journal, Tennessee (1944-46); lecturer in medical history, University of California, Los Angeles Department of History (1953-58);
wrote about early California for children and early California medical men; gave numerous public speeches on children's and
women's welfare, the women in the Oak Ridge War period, and the impact of the new University of California, Los Angeles Medical
School (1947-62).
Scope and Content
Collection consists of correspondence, speeches, manuscripts, some photographs, and ephemera related to the life of Viola
Lockhart Warren. Includes correspondence with members of the Warren family including Stafford Warren, materials related to
the Los Angeles College Clinical Association (ca. 1909-51), miscellaneous manuscripts of Warrens, and a photo album containing
mostly unidentified snapshots.
