Abstract: Hugh Gilchrist Dick (1909-1971) was a professor in the English Department at UCLA (1942-1971) and a joint professor at the
School of Library Science (1967-71). The collection consists of Dick's professional and personal correspondence, and papers
relating to his work in the Department of English and School of Library Science at UCLA.

Hugh Gilchrist Dick was born September 14, 1909 in Whitehall, New York; BA, Union College, 1930; MA, Cornell University, 1935;
Ph.D, Cornell, 1937; instructor (1937-42), assistant professor (1942-48), associate professor (1948-53), and professor (1953-71)
in English Department, UCLA; joint professor, School of Library Science (1967-71), chairman of English Department, 1960-65;
member, American Council of Learned Societies and Modern Language Association; died December 31, 1971.
Scope and Content
Collection consists of professional and personal correspondence, and papers relating to Hugh Dick's work in the Department
of English and School of Library Science at UCLA. Topics include: English Department executive and graduate committees, Medieval
and Renaissance Center and Colloquium, lecture notes, course materials, UCLA Main Library alterations, Clark Library Committee,
and Statewide library committee. Collection also includes Dick's office files and card indices, as well as material relating
to Arthur Golding's
A Morall Fabletalke.
