Biography
Collected papers of prominent San Francisco lawyer, legislator and settler of 1849. Among his achievements while residing
in California he was mayor of Oakland, a correspondent for the Daily Evening Bulletin, a founder and later regent of the University
of California, Berkeley, and a state legislator.
Scope and Content
Collection includes his personal and business records, appointment book, 1873, clippings from newspapers for which JWD wrote;
personal and business records of William Worthington Chipman; original survey and land transaction for the Encinal San Antonio,
later to become the city of Alameda; newspaper clippings pertaining to provision of city water, 1877.
