presented to the Bancroft by the Department of Education, March 26, 1951.

Biographical Information
Benicia, founded in 1847, is a city on the north bank of the Carquinez Strait, just east of Vallejo and across the straight
from Martinez. In 1853 and 1854, Benicia served as California's third state capital and was the county seat of Solano County
until 1858.
Scope and Content of Collection
Board of Trustees minutes (1869-1890); Board of Trustees correspondence, including letters sent to the Board by applicants
for teaching jobs (1871-1914); school registers with lists of pupils (1861-1877 and 1893-1902), school board election materials,
reports of the school board to the Superintendent of Schools for Solano County (1861-1901); principals' reports, instructors'
reports, librarians' reports, school census records, financial records, and documents relating to the construction and maintenance
of school buildings.
