    Biography

    George W. Milias was first elected in 1962 to represent the 22nd Assembly District, comprising the southern portion of Santa Clara County. He was reelected in 1964, 66, and 68 and retired at the end of the 1970 Session. An active Republican party worker, Milias was president of the California Republican Assembly in 1957-58 and in 1960 vice-chairman of the delegation to the Republican National Convention and a member of the Rules Committee. Legislative programs of interest to Milias include conservation of natural resources and streamlining of state government.

    Assemblyman George W. Milias has been representing the 22nd Assembly District for six years. He was elected for the first time in 1962 and re-elected in November 1968 to his fourth consecutive term. George was born and raised in Gilroy, graduated from San Jose State College with a BA in both History and Political Science and received his Master's degree in California Political History from Stanford University.
    His background in civic affairs includes serving as a member of the Santa Clara County Planning Commission in 1958, as Vice-Chairman in 1961 and Chairman in 1962. He was a member of the Santa Clara County Grand Jury in 1954 and served as Foreman in 1956. Numbered among his volunteer political activities are the Presidency of the California Republican Assembly in 1957-58; State Chairman, California Republican Party, 1958-60; Member, Republican National Committee 1958-60; Vice-Chairman of the California delegation to the 1960 Republican National Convention and Delegate to the 1968 Convention. In 1960 George was named to the National Young Republican Hall of Fame.
    Assemblyman Milias has been Vice-Chairman or member of the Fish and Game, and Conservation and Wildlife Committees every year since first elected. In recognition of his long time interests in this field, he now serves as Chairman of the Natural Resources and Conservation Committee. In addition to this chairmanship, he also serves as a member of the Elections and Constitutional Amendments, and Government Administration Committees in the California Assembly.
