Biographical/Historical Sketch
Professor of linguistics at Stanford University since 1967. Prior to coming to Stanford,
Ferguson was director of the Center for Applied Linguistics and taught and conducted
research at the Harvard Center for Middle Eastern Studies and the Foreign Service Institute
in Washington, DC.
