Summary: Logbook and personal journal of a scientific expedition on the U.S. Bureau of Fisheries' steamer Albatross; scientists on
board included Charles Gilbert from Stanford University, Harry Beal Torrey from the University of California, Austin Clark
from the Bureau, and Michitaro Sindo, Stanford student. This trip cruised the Pacific, collecting specimens of fish, stopping
in Alaska, the Aleutian Islands, Japan, and Hawaii. Many of Burke's entries describe his visits to villages and cities on
route, including Nagasaki, Kyoto, Yokohama, and Tokyo.

Biographical/Historical Sketch
Burke earned his a.b. (1907), M.A. (1908), and Ph.D. (1912) in zoology at Stanford University. He then taught at Washington
State University.
Logbook and personal journal of a scientific expedition on the U.S. Bureau of Fisheries' steamer Albatross; scientists on
