History

Historical Note

CAPITAL CITY was a stern-wheeler riverboat built in 1910 and owned by the California Transportation Co., and was used as a passenger riverboat between Sacramento and San Francisco. Her sister ship was FORT SUTTER. Both the CAPITAL CITY and FORT SUTTER were in service until June 1927, when they were replaced by the DELTA KING and DELTA QUEEN. CAPITAL CITY was ultimately re-named PORT OF STOCKTON and was sold to the U.S. government in 1942.

Custodial History

The item was purchased by the San Francisco Maritime Museum from the Argonaut Book Shop, San Francisco, on August 5, 1966. The materials were accessioned into the National Park Service when the museum was made a unit of Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GOGA-735) and then were transferred to San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park after the establishment of the new park in 1989 (SAFR-1).
