    Scope and Content of Collection

Photograph album, with approximately 40 b/w images and accompanying captions, of the Southern Methodist Mission in Japan, its missionaries and work done, mainly in Tokyo, Hiroshima, and Kobe, ca. 1935. The following description is taken from a typescript pasted on the first page of the album:
This album, sponsored by Sam Hilburn and Weyman Huckabee, missionaries of the Southern Methodist Mission in Japan, is made from the cocoons of the 'mi-no-mushi," a small worm which in life cycle resembles the silk-worm. The cocoons are gathered and made into leather [?] in a Christian social project under Mr. Hilburn in Kobe. The books are made by a young Christian binder, a graduate of Fraser Institute in Hiroshima. The pictures give a sketch of various types of work being done in Japan by the Southern Methodist Mission. The album without pictures retails for $0.75; with the forty pictures and descriptions, $1.50. Any profit realized will go into social work operated by the Mission. Orders may be sent to Weyman C. Huckabee, 323 Zakoba Machi, Hiroshima, Japan. International postal order should be sent with order.
