Background
Founded in 1967, Center Theatre Group (CTG) is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that comprises the 2,000-seat Ahmanson Theatre and the 745-seat Mark Taper Forum in downtown Los Angeles, and the 317-seat Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City. In addition to its mainstage productions, CTG's comprehensive arts education program, Performing for Los Angeles Youth (P.L.A.Y.), facilitates two in-school residency programs; tours productions for young people; offers special matinee performances of mainstage productions for students; holds an annual poster contest; creates classroom materials for use in schools; and provides workshops on plays for teachers and students. CTG also maintains a variety of initiatives to increase the accessibility of its productions, including Project D.A.T.E. (Deaf Audiences Theatre Experience), the Audio Description Program, Open Captioning, and discount ticket programs. CTG's New Play Production Program includes the commissioning of new work, partnerships with smaller L.A. theatre companies, artist residencies, and producing and presenting consortiums.
