Biography

Carlos Vásquez, is Director of History & Literary Arts at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. A native of Santa Fé, New Mexico, he holds graduate degrees from UCLA and Stanford University in Latin American History. He has taught at UCLA, UC Berkeley, Loyola Marymount, and The University of New Mexico where he founded the UNM Oral History Program. He has participated in many research projects that have culminated in public programs and exhibits. Among them: Impact Los Alamos: Traditional New Mexico in a Hi-Tech World, The Italians of Albuquerque; Atrisco: A Tricentennial Celebration; Raíces del Río Abajo, and Journeys to Freedom: The Jewish Exodus to the Americas. He is the author or editor of several books, including: Mexican-U.S. Relations: Conflict and Convergence with Manuel García y Griego and La Vida del Río Grande: Our River, Our Life.
