Background
The mission statement of El Centro Chicano as adopted by the Guiding Concilio in 1991 is
"to catalyze Chicanos and Latinos at Stanford into a proactive community that creates an
environment which celebrates and promotes the history, contributions, intellectual heritage,
education, growth, and empowerment of all Chicanos and Latinos here and beyond." El Centro
sponsors programs in leadership development, academic support, cultural events, and social
activities.
