Biography

From the Unicorn Folio, Series Two, Number One: (1968):
Anne Hyde Greet [Cushing] is the author of a book of poems, Spring Eclogue (Francistown, N.H.: Golden Quill Press, 1962) and of an annotated translation, Alcoõls Guillaume Apollinaire (Berkeley: University of California Press, 1965). Her poems have appeared in The New Yorker, New Statesman and other magazines, and she has published articles and book reviews concerning 19th and 20th century French poetry in American and French journals. She is currently Associate Professor of French Literature at the University of California in Santa Barbara. In addition to "Pension Revisited" and "Feast Day at Belgirate," she is represented in this issue of Unicorn Folio by translations from the French of Pierre Reverdy: three prose poems.

Scope and Content of Collection

The collection contains examples of fine printing, proofs, prospectuses, articles, lists, bibliographies, catalogs, correspondence, and other material primarily relating to art and artists’ books in France, the work of Guillaume Apollinaire, Marc Chagall, Joan Miro, Pablo Picasso, and especially the avant-garde Russian artist and publisher Iliazd [born Ilia Zdanevich in Tiblisi, lived and died in Paris]. Also included are etchings and a manuscript book of Japanese drawings.
There are a number of fine press, artists' books, and other related monographs also donated by Anne Cushing, which have been cataloged separately and which may be searched on Pegasus, the UCSB Libraries online catalog. Some items, such as art exhibition catalogs, are housed in the UCSB Arts Library. An accompanying teaching slide collection was transferred to the Art History Department in 2002.
More detailed information about the contents and significance of items in the collection is contained in the appended list prepared by the donor.
