    Abstract: This collection consists of the papers of John William "Sky" Dunlap, Orange County, California journalist, publisher, and owner-operator of the Pacific Clipping Service. Included are photographs, correspondence and newspaper clippings. Dunlap's collection includes issues of approximately 440 early newspapers from Orange County (100 titles), other locations in California (161 titles), other states of the U.S. (133 titles), and countries outside the U.S. (44 titles). The earliest Orange County item in the collection is an issue of the Pacific Weekly Blade dated December 23, 1886.

    Historical Background

    John William "Sky" Dunlap was an Orange County, California journalist, publisher, and owner-operator of the Pacific Clipping Service. Dunlap, born March 8, 1912, was nicknamed "Sky" because of his height: he was 6'8" tall. He married Velma Bishop in 1934 and the couple started an independent newspaper in Orange County called The Globe. He died on November 15, 1968 in Santa Ana, California.
