Abstract: Lukman Glasgow (1935-1987) was the director of the Los Angeles County Cultural Arts Center (1976-77), executive director of the Contemporary Crafts Gallery in Portland, Oregon (1978-79), and director of the Downey Museum of Art (1979-85). This collection consists of his correspondence, museum ephemera, and photographic materials.

Biography

Glasgow was born on August 27, 1935 in Richfield, Utah; BS, Brigham Young University, 1961; MA, California State University, Los Angeles, 1976; director, Los Angeles County Cultural Arts Center, 1976-77; executive director, Contemporary Crafts Gallery, Portland, Oregon, 1978-79; in 1979 became director of Downey Museum of Art; known for his surreal ceramic sculptures working with clay and photography; he died in 1987.

Scope and Content

This collection consists of correspondence, museum ephemera, and photographic materials. Most of the material is from Glasgow's tenure as director of the Downey Museum of Art.

Scope and Content

This series contains Glasgow's correspondence, both personal and professional. His professional correspondence often concerns his position as head of the Downey Museum of Art. Additionally, he corresponded with a number of other artists and ceramicists, who would often send him slides of their work. There is also personal correspondence, including handmade cards and postcards.
