Description
This collection contains correspondence, notes, papers, reports, minutes, articles, charts, tables, scan data sheets and maps, and photographs relating to Faber's research on the structure, formation and evolution of galaxies and stars since joining the faculty at UCSC Lick Observatory in 1972. Included also is material documenting her involvement with Hubble Space Telescope and the W.M. Keck Observatory projects. A portion of the papers contain manuscript pages, diagrams and other supportive material to Faber's thesis (Ph. D.), "Photometry of Elliptical Galaxies in Multiple Systems", completed at Harvard University, 1971.
Background
Astronomer Sandra Faber, a University Professor of astronomy and astrophysics, was elected to the American Philosophical Society on April 29. The learned society, founded in 1743 by Benjamin Franklin, honors extraordinary accomplishments in all fields.
