Description
Wanda Sankary (b.1919) practiced law in Los Angeles and San Diego. In 1954, she was elected as a Democrat to the California State Assembly, representing the 79th district (San Diego), and was defeated in her 1956 re-election bid. The collection consists of correspondence, clippings, papers and ephemera relating to Sankary's political career including campaign material from her 1954 and 1956 campaigns and legislative material from her term of office as a California State Assemblywoman (1954-56).
Background
Sankary was born in 1919 on a farm near Scranton, North Dakota; graduated from law school at the University of Southern California in 1950, and practiced law in Los Angeles and San Diego; in 1954 she was elected as a Democrat to the California State Assembly, representing the 79th district (San Diego); was defeated in her 1956 re-election bid.
