Description
The singing duo of Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme have been performing for audiences since the 1950s and have appeared on numerous television shows over the years. The collection is comprised of scripts representing many of the television programs on which Lawrence and Gorme appeared (both individually and together) during the 1970s-1980s.
Background
Edith Gormezano was born on August 16, 1931, in Bronx, NY. Her career started in 1950 singing with band leader Tommy Tucker. Shortly after, she worked with Tex Beneke before going out on her own and appearing in nightclubs, and on radio and television. In September 1953, she became a permanent member of Steve Allen's Tonight show on which she sang and wrote and performed sketches. It was while working on the Tonight show that she met, partnered with, and later married Steve Lawrence. Stephen Leibowitz was born July 8, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York. He made his recording debut for King Records at the age of 16. He got his television start working on Steve Allen's Tonight show, where he met, partnered with and later married Eydie Gorme.
