Biography

John Stull, Republican, was a State Assembly Member, 1967-1972 and a State Senator, 1973-1978. His 80th Assembly District and 38th Senate District included cities within San Diego County.
He was born in Corinth, Iowa in 1920 and moved to California in 1944. He attended the University of Iowa and received a B.A. degree. Stull served in the United States Navy during World War II and retired as a Commander. He married Babbie Bogue on May 13, 1944. They had one daughter: Sinara.
Senator Stull's community and civic affiliations included such organizations and positions as San Diego County Republican Central Committee member; Republican State Central Committee member; California Advisory Council on Vocational Education and Technical Training member; Educational Management and Evaluation Commission member; Education Commission of the States member; and California Economic Development Commission member.
Senator Stull was elected to the State Assembly in 1966 and reelected in 1968, 1970, and 1972. He was elected to the State Senate in the March 6, 1973 special election to replace Clair W. Burgener, who was elected to Congress. Senator Stull was reelected in 1974. He served as Assembly Republican Whip, 1969-1970 and Assembly Republican Caucus Chair, 1971-1972.
