Abstract: The Yin Haiguang 殷海光 papers (1935-1989) document the activities of Taiwanese academic and philosopher, Yin Haiguang. It includes correspondence, writings, printed matter, and photographs, relating to his work as a visiting scholar to Harvard University, his career at the National Taiwan University, the Chinese intellectual tradition, the philosophy of history, and the issue of academic freedom in Taiwan.

Biographical/Historical Note

Yin Haiguang 殷海光 (5 December 1919 – 16 September 1969) (Yin Fusheng 殷福生)was a Taiwanese academic philosopher. He was born in Hubei, China, but relocated to Taiwan in 1949, where he taught at the National Taiwan University. He was a visiting scholar at Harvard University from 1954-1955. After he returned to Taiwan, he continued to work at NTU, but faced persecution for critizing the government. These events are reflected in his correspondences.

Scope and Content of Collection

The collection consists of correspondence, writings, printed matter, and photographs, relating to the Chinese intellectual tradition, the philosophy of history, and the issue of academic freedom in Taiwan.
