    Abstract: Harold Palmer Davis (1878-1962), who served as Secretary of the American Chamber of Commerce for Haiti, was the author of Black Democracy: the Story of Haiti and Gold Rush Days in Nevada City. The majority of this small collection contains Davis' writings about Haiti including a memorandum with his thoughts on the American occupation of Haiti and his suggestions for future policy, as well as manuscripts on Port Au Prince, and the Citadel and the Sans-Souci Palace. Several of the works also include photographs.

    Biography

    Harold Palmer Davis was born in Maine on May 21, 1878. He served as Secretary of the American Chamber of Commerce for Haiti and authored Black Democracy: the Story of Haiti and Gold Rush days in Nevada City.
    Davis passed away on December 10, 1962.

    Scope and Content

    The majority of this small collection contains Davis' writings about Haiti including a memorandum with his thoughts on the American occupation of Haiti and his suggestions for future policy, as well as manuscripts on Port Au Prince, and the Citadel and the Sans-Souci Palace. Several of the works also include photographs.
