    Abstract: John Downing Weaver (1912- ) was a reporter, feature writer, book reviewer, and copy editor for the Kansas City Star (1935-40). He also contributed articles, short stories and book reviews to magazines, and wrote novels and non-fiction. The collection consists of photocopied articles by Weaver from scrapbooks about Thomas Mann, some from the Kansas City Star.

    Biography

    Weaver was born February 4, 1912 in Washington, D.C.; attended Georgetown University, 1928-29; AB, College of William and Mary, 1932; AM, George Washington University, 1933; worked for various federal agencies including the National Recovery Administration, 1933-35; was also reporter, feature writer, book reviewer, and copy editor, Kansas City Star, 1935-40; contributed articles, short stories, and book reviews to magazines; also wrote novels and non-fiction; published works include Wind before rain (1942), Another such victory (1948), Warren: the man, the Court, the era (1967), The Brownsville raid: the story of America's black Dreyfus affair (1970), and Los Angeles: the enormous village (1980).

    Scope and Content

    Collection consists of photocopied articles from scrapbooks about Thomas Mann, some from the Kansas City Star, by John Weaver, who interviewed him.
