Description
Zalmen Zylbercweig (1894-1972) was born in Chortkov, Galicia. He started his career as an actor before he turned to writing, translating, and directing plays. He relocated to New York in 1937 where he served as editor for the Jewish American for eleven years. He later moved to Los Angeles. The collection consists of Yiddish theater scripts, most of which are undated. The entire collection is in Yiddish.
Background
Zylbercweig was born in Chortkov, Galicia, 1894; started his career as an actor before he turned to writing, translating, and directing plays; relocated to New York in 1937 where he served as editor for the Jewish American for eleven years; later moved to Los Angeles; publications include: Leksikon fun Yidishn Teater (1931-67), Hintern Forhang, Teater Figurn, Teater Mozaik, and Album of the Yiddish Theater (1937); died in 1972.
