    Abstract: Helen (Woodsmall) Eldredge (1879-1959) was born in Selma, Alabama. She founded a physical education movement in India, traveled extensively in Europe and the Middle East and became a writer and lecturer in Oriental subjects and international affairs. The collection includes manuscripts, correspondence, diaries, photographs, and related printed material.

    Biography

    Eldredge was born on January 19, 1879 in Selma, Alabama; attended University of Nebraska, Colorado College, and Columbia University; in 1909, went to India and founded a physical education movement; married Mark Eldredge in 1911, and lived in India into the 1920s; traveled extensively in Europe and the Middle East; became a writer and lecturer in Oriental subjects and international affairs; also known as a singer; she died on October 21, 1959 in Santa Barbara, California.
