Abstract: Papers pertain to his service with the Stanford Red Cross ambulance unit in Italy during World War I and include a transcript of his diary, photograph album, letters to parents, postcards collected while in Europe, Red Cross discharge letter, and Red Cross instruction booklet. The diary transcript also includes a photo of the villa he lived in taken during a visit to Italy in 1962. The album includes images of fellow Stanford volunteers Frank Thomas, Edward Harper, and Stirling Pillsbury.

Biographical/Historical Sketch

Edgar Hale Musser earned his a.b. in geology at Stanford University in June 1920; while still an undergraduate he joined the Stanford Italian Ambulance Unit, serving from May to December 1918.

Description of the Collection

Papers pertain to his service with the Stanford Red Cross ambulance unit in Italy during World War I and include a transcript of his diary, photograph album, letters to parents, postcards collected while in Europe, Red Cross discharge letter, and Red Cross instruction booklet. The diary transcript also includes a photo of the villa he lived in taken during a visit to Italy in 1962.
