Biographical Note

Sewell Fogg Graves (1843-1923) was the photographer of this collection. His daughter, Helen P. Graves married George G. Byrne, co-owner of Byrne Bros. Hardware on Pacific Avenue in downtown Santa Cruz. George and Helen's daughter Gertrude (1901-1992) was the donor's mother. Gertrude was born in Santa Cruz, and graduated in the first class of the newly built Santa Cruz High School after the 1915 fire.

Scope and Contents Note

This collection consists of Graves and Byrne's family photographs of Santa Cruz, the family homes, West Cliff drive, the beach and wharf area, churches, schools, and downtown Santa Cruz.
