The California State Archives acquired the Kawrence Kapiloff Papers by deed of gift.

Biography

Lawrence Kapiloff, Democrat, was a State Assembly Member, 1973-1982. His 78th Assembly District included cities within San Diego County.
He was born on September 22, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York and established residence in California in 1955. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict then attended the University of California, Los Angeles. There he received a BA in Psychology in 1957 and an LLB from the Law School in 1960. He wrote "how-to" books about real property and worked as a tax law attorney for the City of San Diego. His job made him decide to run for office and try to change the unwieldy tax system. Kapiloff is the father of three children: Johanna, Norman, and Yvonne.
Assembly Member Kapiloff was a Phi Alpha Delta Fraternity Member and State Bar Association Member. He was elected to the State Assembly in 1972. According to the California Legislature at Sacramento (Handbooks), he served on the following committees:

After leaving the Legislature, Kapiloff served on the San Diego Superior Court until his retirement in 1994.
