An April 10, 1866 handwritten claim for the Scholes Quartz Sedge Scott Valley Discovery Claim.
Background
Discovery claims of Scholes Quartz Sedge Scott Valley were located in Siskiyou County, California. The 1866 handwritten claim states that for five dollars George Scholes sold fifty (50) feet of his mining claims on Cedar Creek to Geo. C. Furbey. According to the claim the fifty feet was in the northeast part of George Scholes two claims of two hundred and fifty feet (250) of what are called the discovery claims of Scholes Sedge. The claim states that the 50 feet was located “on the Sedge on the northeast by Joseph Magill’s claim called as claim No. 1 on the northeast extension of the Scholes Sedge, and on the southwest by the remainder of my discovery claims”. The claim was executed and delivered before an E. H. Hall, and signed by George Scholes.
