Van der Veer was born on October 17, 1907 in Oil City, Pennsylvania; grew up in San Diego; contributed stories, articles,
and poems to magazines; published books include
River pasture (1936),
Brown hills (1938),
November grass (1940),
A few happy ones (1943),
My valley in the sky (1959),
Hold the rein free (1966),
Wallace the wandering pig (1967),
Higher than the arrow (1969),
To the rescue (1969),
The gray mare's colts (1971), and
Long trail for Francisco (1974); she died on November 22, 1982 in Ramona, California.
