Abstract: Charles Anthony Newnham (1926-1992) began working at Bertram Rota bookdealers (1947- ), later becoming a director. He started
his own book business (1955) before relocating to Austin, Texas to work for Franklin Gilliam at the Brick Row Book Shop. He
moved to another American firm which became bankrupt, and for some years made his living as a carpenter. In 1981 he moved
back to Britain, settling in Edinburgh in 1982 where he issued catalogs to a select group of customers. The collection consists
of 17 volumes of Newnham's pasted-up and annotated booksellers' catalogs.

Biography
Charles Anthony Newnham was born on April 1, 1926 in Yelverton, Devonshire, England; attended Wellington school; worked as
a recorded programmes assistant at the BBC; began working at Bertram Rota bookdealers in 1947, later becoming a director;
in 1955 he started his own book business; moved to Austin, Texas to work for Franklin Gilliam at the Brick Row Book Shop;
moved to another American firm which became bankrupt, and for some years made his living as a carpenter; moved back to Britain
in 1981, settling in Edinburgh in 1982; issued catalogs to a select group of customers; he died on June 6, 1992 in Edinburgh.
