    Scope and Content of Collection

    The program of Women's Physical Education was "designed to produce a highly skilled professional person in the field of physical and health education and also a better, wiser, and more cultivated individual." (From "Statement of criteria which establish the professional nature of the curriculum offered," box 15, folder 2. UCSB College of Letters and Science records, UArch 66.) Courses offered included archery, tennis, swimming, dance, softball, basketball, badminton, golf, and preparatory courses for teaching physical education.
